Following the news that Chelsea boss Emma Hayes has been named the new manager of the United States women’s national team, we heartily add our congratulations, while recalling one of our fondest X (formerly Twitter) likes.

Set to take charge when the Women’s Super League (WSL) season ends in May, Hayes, 47, will be heading back to the country where she began her managerial career in 2001 with the Long Island Lady Riders.

A four-time World Cup winning juggernaut, Team USA were eliminated by Sweden on penalties in the last 16 of the June’s Australia/New Zealand-hosted edition — their earliest exit so far.

Meanwhile, Hayes’ Chelsea is on course for a fifth straight WSL title, and she has also won five FA Cups and the League Cup twice.

“I’ve given everything I can,” said Hayes, speaking to reporters recently. “I wanted to leave at the top.”

You’ve certainly done that Emma!
